The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve our systems of democracy and justice. We work to hold our political institutions and laws accountable to the twin American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. The Center’s work ranges from voting rights to campaign finance reform, from ending mass incarceration to preserving Constitutional protection in the fight against terrorism. Part think tank, part advocacy group, part cutting edge communications hub, we start with rigorous research. We craft innovative policies. And we fight for them – in Congress and the states, the courts, and in the court of public opinion.

We seek an energetic, motivated, well-organized individual with entry to mid-level experience who will provide administrative support to the Center’s Finance & Budget department and Human Resources department, directly supporting the Vice President for Programs, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), and the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO)

Responsibilities will include:

  • Administrative support for the VP of Programs, COO, and CHRO, including scheduling and confirming meetings, expense management, and travel
  • General administrative support the Finance & Operations department and Human Resources department. Includes occasional back-up to the Office Manager and HR Coordinator positions, as well as assisting in scheduling and coordination for relevant training and onboarding sessions 
  • Communicating with internal and external constituents, including scheduling meetings with vendors and interview candidates
  • Supporting the summer internship program
  • Database entry for the organization’s CRM (Customer Relationship Management software)
  • Assisting in coordination of reentry efforts and COVID-19 compliance, including management of the daily health screener
  • Policy compliance software administration
  • Assisting in staff morale events (parties, happy hours, etc.); may necessitate occasionally working outside normal hours
  • Answering and screening incoming calls
  • Other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Keen attention to detail and an ability to multi-task
  • An openness to evolving responsibilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A high degree of integrity, discretion and tact
  • An interest in the Brennan Center’s issues
  • A sense of humor and an ability to build positive working relationships
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
